Former Carolina Panther Dan Morgan Opens Two New Restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina

Former Carolina Panther Linebacker Dan Morgan and his wife Ashleigh along with the BarFly Group have opened a new pizzeria and diner in South Charlotte’s Stonecrest neighborhood.

Cheese Mo’z is the name of the pizzeria. Dan Morgan’s inspiration came from Anthony’s Coal fired pizza located in South Florida. Pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads and wings will be served at Cheese Mo’z. Cheese Mo’z will offer several televisions for the sports fan. I can see a large number of Carolina Panthers fans piling in come game time.

The diner Sweet T’s will serve Southern style comfort food from breakfast to dinner, specializing in cakes and pies for dessert. Hopefully, Sweet T’s will be just as comforting to the palate.

Both restaurants are located in the new village at the Robinson Farm development at Rea Road and Williams Pond Lane in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Showmars Casual Dining Fast a Restaurant Review

Showmars restaurant a staple here in Charlotte, North Carolina has more than 25 locations in Charlotte and the surrounding areas. This Greek inspired restaurant serves up delicious fast food in a casual dining environment.

There are 27 locations within Charlotte and its surrounding cities. Only two of the Showmars restaurants are franchises. Which is unique in itself and that’s why Showmars food and customer service is consistent at all locations. I have frequented several locations and the ones that stand out are the Dilworth and the Fort Mill location.

My Showmars favorites are the fresh flounder dinner and the gyro dinner and the Greek salad. The calabash shrimp dinner is an extremely popular item. The plates overflow with nice big pieces of shrimp.

Sandwiches you must try are Fresh Filet Fish sandwich, gyro, Grilled chicken pita, and the Old fashion pita burger. Showmars restaurant has the best fish sandwich in town. You’ll love their salads especially the Greek salads with grilled chicken or gyro meat.

Showmars has one of the most attentive and friendliest staffs. They take pride in their restaurants. Managers greet you at the door. They want you to have a pleasant experience so you’ll come back and again. And I do just that.

But no matter how nice the staff is you wouldn’t come back if the food wasn’t delicious. And Showmars exceeds your expectations.

Showmars restaurants pride itself in a fun friendly atmosphere which serves fresh cooked to order food at reasonable prices. Plus, they give you generous portions. I have to admit that Showmars delivers every time.

If you’re new to the Charlotte Area you need to pay them a visit as soon as you can. And if you’re passing through make this one of your stops.

I have three categories in which I put a dining experience in.
1. Recommended – Meaning I would eat there again and recommend it to others.
2. Toss up – Means you have to decide for yourself by visiting the establishment.
3. Drive By – Means keep on driving pass the restaurant.

So which category does Showmars fall in? I would have to say Recommended.

Is it a Garage or Garbage Sale?

I’ve never been too familiar with garage sales. Nor have they interested me. Not until one day when my co-worker walked in with a slightly used radio with a cassette deck, CD player and a mini TV to boot. And to top it all off the owner left a Luther Vandross CD in it. All of this for the bargain basement price of $10 dollars.

My co-worker continued to boast about all of the finds she’d made over the years. She felt she hit the mother load.

My mouth began to salivate with all the possibilities of treasures to be had. With much anticipation I tossed and turned in my bed all week, waiting for the golden garage day, Saturday morning.

With my cup of hot chocolate in hand I began to strategize. My strategy was to only hit garage sales in the best neighborhoods in Charlotte. I scoured neighborhoods such as Ballantyne, South Park, Piper Glen and the prime parts of Providence Road.

But to my dismay I found out the hard way that all that glitters ain’t gold. I was horrified at what some of these garage sellers were selling. There were broken lamps, scuffed up shoes, torn clothing, one legged dolls, one eyed stuffed animals and the list goes on.

The best find I ever came across at a garage sale was a love seat and chair in excellent condition. It was a beautiful color and had plump sturdy pillow cushions. I bought if for my sunroom.

On one occasion I went to a garage sale of a Charlotte Bobcat player. I purchased a vacuum cleaner for $10 dollars for my cleaning business. When I returned home and tried it out it emitted an order similar to the smell of feet that we couldn’t get rid of.

Another garage sale I attended the family invited us into their home to take a look around. As soon as we entered the stench slapped us in the face turning us all the way around. There were clothes everywhere, boxes of things that I didn’t care to look into. And cats on top of everything, need I say more?

As we continued to explore additional garage sales we started a system. We would drive by the garage sale as slowly as we could. If we couldn’t see anything from the street then one of us had to get out of the car and quickly assess the situation.

That’s when we came up with the phrase “garbage sale.” You would cough and quickly mutter under your breath “garbage sale.” Once you heard the phrase “garbage sale,” you turned around, got back in the car and we sped off.

In my quest, I learned that one mans’ garbage is another man’s treasure. And some men’s garbage just needs to be thrown away.

Bar – B- Q King as featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives

Bar-B-Q King was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives one of my favorite shows on the food network. It’s hosted by Guy Fieri.

Bar-B-Q King is located right here in the Queen City Charlotte, North Carolina.

I’ve drove by The Bar-B-Q king several times while driving around the city of Charlotte. At times I wondered if it was still a working establishment. Being a big city girl I wasn’t too familiar with the drive in concept. I was curious as to how they worked but was too scared to ever try one.

While watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives I see Guy Fieri on my television screen raving about this Drive-In located right in here in Charlotte, North Carolina.

If you’ve had the pleasure of watching Guy’s show I know there are a multitude of places that he has visited that you just want to try for yourself.

Unfortunately, not all of them are located right in your own backyard. So when Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featured the Bar-B-Q King I knew it was a place that I had to try out for myself.

I’ve never seen a food establishment that Guy didn’t like. Definitely wanting to see what the hype was all about I ventured out on my own.

So Guy Fieri put your money where your mouth is.

The first thing I wanted to do was try what they are famous for and that’s the Bar-B-Q. So I ordered a Bar-B-Q plate and a quarter Bar-B-Q chicken dinner. And yes I did have family members there to help me out.

I have to admit the Bar-B-Q chicken was different from any version of Bar-B-Q chicken that I have ever tasted. This particular Bar-B-Q chicken is deep fried first then dipped in their secret Bar-B-Q sauce that the owners use for their Bar-B-Q. It might sound strange but it works.

I do need to let you know that I am a huge fan of Bar-B-Q. And I have tasted some of the best Bar-B-Q that is out there.

Now this Bar-B-Q isn’t the best out there but it’s definitely one of the better ones here in Charlotte, NC.

If you’re expecting five star services—get over yourself. You’re only expected to get your eat on and drive away.

Woods on South located in Charlotte, NC

Yesterday I had an opportunity to visit Woods on South Located at 2100 South Blvd in Charlotte, NC. I enjoy trying different restaurants. What lured me to this restaurant was the fact that it features Carolina Cuisine by Celebrity Chef Marvin Woods. To help you picture him he’s the African American Chef that wears a scarf on his head. He hosted “Home plate” on the Turner South network.

The advertisement for his restaurant quotes: “Chef Marvin Woods’ dishes are light, sophisticated & exotic!” -Oprah

So with the succulent description of the menu items and celebrity endorsement how can you go wrong?

Woods on South is in the building that was formerly occupied by South End Brewery. So for the connoisseurs of Micro-Brewed beers Carolina Beer Company has taken over. I would also like to mention that they offer beer tasting and tours daily.

We started out with a chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. Never having had gumbo before I thought I was in store for a rare treat. I found the gumbo to be so-so. It lacked flavor and spice. I would even have to go as far as to say it was bland.

Then we proceeded to try an appetizer “The Hallelujah Hot Wings” sounded as if they would be something to sing about. However, I didn’t find myself humming nor tapping my foot. I thought the chicken wings were a little undercooked. The chicken skin was a bit too soft for my taste. As far as flavor there was none. But it was hot. Hot like someone squirted hot sauce on the wings before they came out of the kitchen.

For my entrée I tried the Ashley Farms (NC) Flash Fried Chicken with Mac n 3 cheese and vegetarian braised collard greens. I would give the Mac n 3 cheese 3 out of 5 stars. The vegetarian braised collard greens seemed to be little overpowered by vinegar. I’m thinking maybe cooking them with bacon or smoked turkey offsets the vinegary taste.

I did enjoy the Flash Fried Chicken it was piping hot, fresh, properly seasoned with a lot of crispy crunch.

2. Toss up – Means you have to decide for yourself by visiting the establishment.

Brooklyn Pizza Parlor

Brooklyn Pizza Parlor has one of the better tasting pizzas located here in Charlotte, NC. As a New York transplant I am always looking for that perfect slice of pizza that reminds me of home. On occasion Brooklyn Pizza Parlor has come close. However, the one thing I do find fault with is that they are not consistent with the taste of the pizza. This on some visits can be very disappointing. But on the visits where everything is going well you will definitely be satisfied.

I think Brooklyn Pizza Parlor deserves at least one visit and you can make your decision from there. It's located on 7725 Colony Rd Charlotte, NC 28226.
